After two years of meticulous restoration work, the historic synagogue in the city of Guba has been fully restored to its former glory. The project, funded jointly by the Azerbaijani government and the Jewish community, has preserved one of the region’s most important cultural monuments.

Expert restorers carefully preserved the original 19th-century architectural elements while upgrading the building’s infrastructure to modern standards. The synagogue’s unique ceiling frescoes, ornate woodwork, and stained glass windows have been painstakingly restored.

The restored synagogue will serve both as an active house of worship and as a cultural museum, telling the story of Jewish life in the Caucasus. Interactive exhibits will guide visitors through centuries of Mountain Jewish history in the region.

Government officials attended the reopening ceremony, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of all its communities. The restoration is part of a broader program to protect and maintain historic religious sites across the country.
